A surgical procedure that aims to eliminate accumulations of fat from different body areas, such as the abdomen, back, hips and waist, among others.
It is ideal for people with good skin quality, localized fat body without abdominal flaccid, since this is a procedure that tends to create a bit of skin flaccid. It does not improve stretch marks and it is not recommended on patients with a large amount of them. Since it does not work on the abdominal muscles, the patient should be placed in a postoperative exercise plan to improve muscle tone.
Preoperative Evaluation
In the first interview the surgeon will assess the patient's body areas he/she wants to improve and obtain the desired body fat percentage. We must set clear, in advance, that this is not a weight loss treatment. In this interview the surgeon will also take note of the skin condition, its ability to retract, the existence of stretch marks and skin tone.
The patient will state his/her current health condition, diseases, medications taken at time of consultation, especially coagulation-altering drugs such as corticosteroids, aspirin, vitamin E, anti-inflammatories, etc.
Surgical Procedure
It most cases this surgery can be performed as an outpatient. Regarding anesthesia, we preferably use epidural, general and in VERY special cases, local anesthesia plus sedation, the latter depending on the volume of fat to be extracted. The average duration is about 3 to 4 hours.
The basic technique is to introduce through small incisions in perfectly camouflaged places, a solution to hydrate the adiposity and with a suction machine remove the fat from the areas preoperatively marked, taking care of the uniformity of the zones worked on. This fat can be discarded or reused in different parts of the body such as the gluteal or trochanteric areas or where in the opinion of the Surgeon and in accordance with the patient it is necessary.
When performing laser lipolysis the procedure begins with the hydration of fat tissue in the same manner as the conventional technique. Then with a very thin fiber laser we sweep away approximately 20 to 30 'in each area that has been previously determined. Once the laser lipolysis has finished, as much as possible fat is vacuumed. It should be noted that we do not recommend the fat removed by laser lipolysis to be placed in other areas of the body. When the patient wishes to do so, we recommend a combined procedure initially extracting fat by the conventional method and the desired volume and then complete the procedure with the laser cannula.
After the procedure the patient will be wearing a post-surgical girdle previously tailored for you.
Postoperative
The postsurgical girdle will be permanently used during an average of three weeks. It is normal for the first 24 to 48 hours to have some drainage of bloody fluids through the surgical wounds but this should not distress the patient.
It is important to follow medical recommendations in terms of taking medication for pain and inflammation, the local placement of cold with ice or compresses above the medical girdle. From the fourth day on, local heat should be placed with a substance that helps to reduce inflammation as Arnica or magnesium sulfate. It is important to try to walk from the same day of surgery, take your normal bath, trying to be careful with hot water to avoid skin burns.
The patient may notice that during the first days after surgery, his/her body figure is not what he/she expected and it is possible that the clothes will fit tight and must use baggy clothes. This is normal until the 15th day when the patient begins to quickly loose measures, possibly some weight, until the fourth month; after the fourth month weight loss goes much slower.
We recommend massages and ultrasound performed by qualified personnel, starting the fourth day after surgery.
